1. What we can put in Torontos blue boxes are: glass bottles and jars, aluminum containers, plastic bottles and jars, and metal cans.
There are some new items that we can put in our blue boxes such as: empty paint cans, drink boxes without the straws, milk and juice cartons, and empty aerosol cans too.
2. We can put paper materials, household papers, cardboards, paper egg cartons, paper towels and paper towel rolls, bags, cards, paper or cardboard boxes, but they have to be flatten out first, and much more paper related materials can go in Torontos gray boxes.
3. The problem with sending Torontos waste to Keele Valley landfill site is that its closed over Torontos garbage. The reasons for the Keele Valley landfill to close is because of the contract problems, and it was full, because of taking not only Torontos garbage but also taking York Region and Durham Regions garbage.
4. Toronto made a contract with Kirkland Lake saying that Toronto would pay 1 billion dollar to Kirkland Lake for using its landfill sit for 20 years. But that contract did not go so well, cause of the contract problems the plan did not work out so thats why Toronto made a contract with Michigan and started to send its waste over.
5. Torontos contract with Michigan was that Toronto, would send its waste to Michigan until 2005 by trucks, but Toronto also has an option of renewing the time until 2020. Now Michigans contract with Toronto, is that when ever the border closes its doors to Toronto, Michigan has to find an alternative place for Toronto to dump its waste. So far both sides are keeping the contract on tract. Currently Toronto pays $115.00 to $120.00 for every tone garbage, which goes across the border over to Michigan. Also Michigan getting a lot of benefit from Toronto.
6. Exchange groups are, the groups that a city of a country send or get materials from. In this case Toronto exchanges its waste with Michigan. Some people benefit from it and some doesnt. The people who benefits from it are the people who are actually exchanging the waste (sending the waste over), and other people who are benefiting are the people who are getting the money for the garbage. The people, who are not benefiting from this, are mostly kids, because as more waste grows the more the air pollution grows, and the place where all the garbage goes for land filling that environments air is very polluted and its very bad for kids and people with diseases specially the people who suffer from astma.
7. The problems, which Torontos facing, are that the garbages are expending each day; many people are creating a lot of pollutions, such as air pollution, toxic waste pollution, water pollution and many more.
Sometimes when Toronto is sending its garbage over to Michigan, Toronto, is accidentally sending its banned products over the borders. But now Toronto is being extra careful and taking extra precautions to make sure that none of the banned materials, which are banned by Michigan, is going across the border. Toronto is having a hard time keeping in track of all of its garbage, so is Toronto thinking of taking some long and short term future plans, which will help them in the coming years.
8. Some of the realistic solutions for Torontos waste problems are:
The way that we can reduce the air pollution are; if we use less vehicles such as buses, trucks, vans, planes, factory gases, etc. I think we actually can reduce all kind problems and diseases like asthma. The way that we can save the environment, the fishes, and us from the polluted water is if people like us wouldnt through what ever they want at the water, cut back on the industrial pollutions, reduce amount of toxic waste that goes to the water, oil spills and more. If we can cut back in all of these then we all couldve lived longer and happier, and the fishes wouldnt die (extinct from the world). We need to do that.
If more people would follow the 3Rs, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Then we could have a happier and healthier life. If people of Toronto would co-operate a bit more then we could save a lot of money, because out of all of the people who do not do any of the 3Rs, for them we have to send the recyclable materials to Michigan and that costs more. By Recycling Torontonians could benefit a lot!
